How Merrin’s Magic in Jedi Survivor preps Ahsoka’s story

The upcoming release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will reveal more of Cal Kestis’ journey after the events of Fallen Order. Merrin’s Nightsister Magick is expected to play a factor in his journey yet again, with gameplay trailers revealing her role as a companion, but the way this force magic is featured may also have an effect on Ahsoka and Thrawn’s narrative in the upcoming Disney Plus show.

Set 5 years after the events of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, an older Cal Kestis is set to return to our game consoles with Jedi Survivor on April 28. The Jedi Knight will explore more of the galaxy while trying to survive the relentless pursuit of the Empire and Sith Inquisitors. Players will get the chance to travel to new planets including Coruscant and meet some interesting characters.

The Jedi Survivor story trailer revealed that the full cast of Greez, Cere, and Merrin would be returning, with the addition of new characters such as the High Republic Jedi and Cal’s new in-game companion, Bode Akuna. This new game is expected to have a different Mantis crew dynamic compared to the first game, as they seem to have split and started focusing on their own interests. Cal could get more time with Merrin and the others individually as a result of this change, giving us an opportunity to learn more about the Nightsister’s Magick.

Why Merrin’s Magic differs from Jedi Force

In a galaxy that focuses on Force-sensitive beings like Jedi and Sith, force users that channel magic through spells do not get the same attention. Through Star Wars’ extended universe with Legends novels and games, it has been revealed that quite a few groups make use of different magic techniques instead of the Force maneuvers we normally see.

Merrin and the other Nightsisters like Mother Talzin have made use of the force to cast intricate spells, instead of manipulating the environment or heightening their senses. In the Clone Wars TV series, we see some of this magick used on Darth Maul and Savage Oppress, to heal them, increase their strength, and for other benefits.

In Jedi Fallen Order, we see that Merrin is possibly the last remaining Nightsister on Dathomir and that she has the ability to turn invisible, teleport herself, resurrect her slain sisters, cloak the Mantis from Imperial trackers, and much more by making use of the power that her home world possesses.

The new Star Wars title could normalize the idea of magic use for those without Jedi training and help the audience understand more about Nightsister magick and other types of enchantments that are out there before the upcoming release of Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka TV series.

Is there Magic in the Ahsoka show?

There is expected to be some unique magic or force abilities that we don’t yet understand in the upcoming Ahsoka series. Exactly what that will look like or entail is still a great mystery to Star Wars fans but, hopefully, we can learn more in Jedi: Survivor.

From the Purgils’ abilities, the World Between Worlds, and rumors that Thrawn will link up with witches or magic users similar to the Nightsisters before he returns from the Great Beyond, there should be tons of new elements for us to see. All linked to the secrets that Ezra Bridger had been chasing prior to their departure in the Star Wars Rebels finale.

The use of Merrin’s abilities in the upcoming Star Wars Jedi game could give us a better understanding of this type of sorcery and even time travel that we can expect to see in the Ahsoka series. Understanding just how complex and powerful this magic can be, and if there are any major weaknesses to using it.

The good news is, we won’t have much longer to find out, Star Wars Jedi Survivor has a release date of April 28, and the Ahsoka series is currently slated for August.
