The popular Star Wars Rebels character Sabine Wren will make her live-action debut in the Ahsoka series on Disney Plus. In the latest trailers and commercials, Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s character is seen wielding a lightsaber, but does this hint at the Mandalorian Warrior becoming a Jedi in the future?

The latest trailers for the upcoming ‘Ahsoka’ series have teased the return of many fan-favorite characters from the Star Wars universe including Ahsoka Tano, Hera Sendulla, Chopper, and more, catching us up on all that’s happened since the Rebels finale when Ghost Crew split up.

There has been a surprising interest in Sabine Wren, who will be played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and her role in the upcoming show after new footage was revealed showcasing the Mandalorian battling with a lightsaber once again. But does this mean that she will officially become a Jedi in the series and could Ahsoka train her?

Could Sabine Wren be a Jedi?

Sabine’s Mandalorian backstory unveils her origins as a prominent member of Clan Wren from House Viszla, one of the largest sects within Mandalorian society. This rich backstory was explored in the Star Wars Rebels series, offering significant insights into her character. While Mandalorians and Jedi traditionally kept their distance, and the thought of them crossing over seemed impossible, much of the tension between them dissipated after the fall of the Jedi Order as seen with Grogu.

Sabine could walk the opposite path of Grogu, in the upcoming series, as the need for Jedi to keep the Galaxy in order is still quite high with the lurking Imperial Remnant and Thrawn’s return. Sabine Wren is of the few Mandalorians we have ever seen to wield a lightsaber in canon, with most other examples being the rulers of Mandalore with the Darksaber. Her combat abilities already put her in a good position but her connection to the Force is still unclear.

In the latest trailer, we see her fight with Shin Hati, who is expected to be quite a strong apprentice of Baylan Skoll, the Order 66 Jedi survivor turned Mercenary. Her ability to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Gar Saxon, and even Kanan Jarrus in their training sequence in Rebels, is a good sign but she could need some further instruction from the titular character, Ahsoka Tano.

Will Ahsoka train Sabine to fight?

Whether or not Sabine chooses to go down the route of becoming a Jedi, it is possible that Ahsoka could teach her a few things about lightsaber combat and the ways of her former order. The pair are expected to reunite during Tano’s search for Ezra and ahead of her battle against Grand Admiral Thrawn, but they may have some time in-between for some training sequences.

During the Rebels series, we did not see many signs that Sabine Wren could be force-sensitive, but Ahsoka would be considered much more knowledgeable and powerful than her former mentor Kanan, and could help her to unlock any connection she might have.

While Dave Filoni is no stranger to taking risks and delivering bold Star Wars content, there’s no telling what he has planned for many of the iconic characters we will see in Ahsoka. As of now, all we can do is speculate what kind of journey and challenges Sabine will face in the upcoming series that will release on August 23 on Disney Plus.
