Ted Lasso has had an arduous love life as the titular character in the hit Apple TV show. But lately, fans of the series have started shipping him with AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton. Does this relationship make sense for the story and, should it happen?
The odds have been stacked heavily against our favorite characters in Season 3, following the departure of Coach Shelley which set the club back. In recent episodes, we have seen a major focus on the characters’ abilities to overcome obstacles and improve their mental health.
Unfortunately, the characters’ attempts at romance also appear to be unsuccessful across the board, following Keeley and Roy’s breakup in Episode 2. But now, fans have started to pull for an unlikely pairing to come together before the end of the third season, Rebecca and Ted.
Will Ted Lasso and Rebecca get together?

In terms of availability, both of these characters are currently single and have, strangely, been on parallel trajectories since the show’s first season. One of the biggest reasons why the audience has started to speculate about a potential romantic connection between them is because they are facing similar obstacles at the same time.

Despite moving abroad, we still see Ted Lasso coming to terms with his marriage ending and the distance from his son. After his marriage, he has spent time with Rebecca’s friend Sassy, but it was made clear, at the start of Season 3, that she was not looking for anything meaningful with Ted when he proposed a date.
Richmond’s owner Rebecca is also managing her split from the rival West Ham owner, Rupert Mannion. Unlike Ted’s situation, Rebecca is often confronted by Rupert and his new partner Bex at social events and has found it difficult at times. She also had a short-term fling with Richmond player Sam Obisanya in the second season but given the nature of their relationship, it was not expected to last.
Would their relationship work in Season 3?
In the show, the pair currently have what much of the audience would describe as a sweet friendship between colleagues, so it is difficult to say for sure. If Ted Lasso’s showrunners decided on uniting these iconic characters, it would probably be very divisive among viewers. Leaving some of the audience thrilled and others extremely confused.
While there is some chemistry between the two, it hasn’t been overly obvious. Of course, given their current positions at Richmond, any kind of relationship between the two could be considered a conflict of interest and would draw objection from the media and other staff members.
For it to work it would likely require one of them to step away from their current role at the football club. But, with rumors that this may be the last season, that is not entirely out of the question. Given Ted Lasso’s lack of knowledge in football, could retire from coaching at the end of the season and start a new chapter? Or will Rebecca move on from Richmond and, if the psychic’s prediction is to be believed, focus on becoming a mother?
As for now, we will just have to wait and see how this narrative unfolds in the rest of Season 3. Although it could be a great ending for both Rebecca and Ted’s characters, their chemistry will need to develop more over the coming episodes for it to truly make sense.
