The Writers Guild of America has organized a major strike, with many of the biggest names from TV and Film putting a halt to their work duties, in hopes of fairer pay for all screenwriters. The Mandalorian’s Season 4 is one of the most popular series affected by this delay, but exactly how long will Jon Favreau and Star Wars’ writers be out?
While it is completely justified for these writers to demand higher wages and equity in the projects they work on, fans are still curious how long it might last and how much it will push back their favorite media content. There have been numerous Disney Plus shows put on pause so far, particularly those in early production, and among them is the hit series The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian will be moving into its fourth season when we next see it on the streaming platform, after the release of what was quite a divisive season 3, which garnered plenty of mixed reactions over how “safe” it ultimately was. But it is now revealed that it has been put on pause, with writer Jon Favreau also waiting to see the result of the WGA strike.
How long is The Mandalorian Season 4 delay?
As of May 19, the writing strike has yet to cease, or show any signs of stopping, with the Writer’s Guild recently claiming that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), whose members include Disney, Netflix, Apple, and other broadcasting companies, “refuses to negotiate a fair deal to address the existential crisis.”
Some have questioned the need to stop the show because Jon Favreau previously stated that he had already finished writing the fourth season, during the production of the Mandalorian’s third batch of episodes. But, it is more likely that he had just drawn up a clear outline for it, rather than having polished scripts ready for every episode.
Based on the previous production timelines of the hit Star Wars series, the fourth season was originally speculated to arrive in Late 2024. With everything going on, expecting that the writers’ strike could last a few months, the release date might be 2 or 3 months later than planned, perhaps pushing it into an Early 2025 release date, instead.
What’s The Mandalorian season 4 about?
Now that Grogu and Din Djarin have been reunited and the threat of Moff Gideon has been vanquished, what story arc will we see in the upcoming Season? Well, with recent news around Dave Filoni’s movie being the culmination of the “Mando-Verse” events, it is likely that the next season will start to prepare for this Endgame-like battle against Thrawn’s army.
Djarin and Grogu are expected to complete bounties and missions for the New Republic, after the Mandalorian’s offer to Captain Teva in the Season 3 finale. It is likely that during one of these missions, they will stumble onto some dark secrets that will link their journey with Ahsoka’s search for Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Empire remnant.
As for now, there has been very little officially confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm on the following season, but we can expect to see something along these lines. More information and the first trailer should be released closer to late 2024, but until then we can only speculate further on what Jon Favreau has in store.
