Disney and Lucasfilm have finally confirmed a Dave Filoni Star Wars movie is on the way. After recent reports, the Clone Wars creator’s upcoming project was revealed during an early panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe.

Annually, the major Star Wars Celebration event gives fans of the franchise an idea of what they can look forward to in the coming months and years ahead. Can expect to see new trailers and announcements for upcoming TV shows, games, and movies.

As of now, the future surrounding a lot of Star Wars content remains up in the air, following the likes of “Rangers of the New Republic” being canceled and Damon Lindelof exiting his planned movie. Hopefully, this year’s celebration will shine some light on what has happened with these previously announced projects and what’s in store.

Dave Filoni new Star Wars movie

We all know that Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka TV show is well on its way after starting production in early 2022 but that is not all he has to focus on in the Star Wars universe, after confirming a new movie on the official Star Wars live stream for Day 1 of the Celebration event.

In the last few years, Filoni has received the highest praise from fans for his work under Disney’s Lucasfilm and now that he will finally get a shot at directing his own Star Wars movie, there is massive excitement about what it could look like.

Narratively, there are plenty of directions and timelines for him to go and explore with this new story. While he has been most fascinated with the Ahsoka and Thrawn arc as of late, a shift to other characters could also be intriguing for fans of the franchise.

What is Dave Filoni’s movie about?

Insider Jeff Sneider recently shared that Filoni is becoming the new “George Lucas” in the eyes of the streaming service. And will likely be given a ton of creative control when it comes to the plot and direction for this newly announced film.

While the rumors have now finally been confirmed, there has yet to be a title or much information about the plot and characters as of yet. What we do know so far is that the movie will be set in between the events of Episode VI and Episode VII. And it will build upon the new stories that Dave Filoni and Favreau have created.

After it was hinted that it will feed off “Legends and the extended universe,” many suspect that the film will be heavily inspired and could share the same name as the “Heir to the Empire” book by Timothy Zahn, about Thrawn’s rise to power. It could collate all the characters from the “Mandoverse” and “Ahsoka” to fight against the tactical genius in an Endgame-like finale.

The Heir to the Empire rumors has continued to ramp up, which brings the possibility of Star Wars’ Legends characters like Mara Jade Skywalker and others also potentially being involved, which would go down a treat for fans of George Lucas’ extended universe.
