Star Wars is packed full of intriguing alien races that both captivate viewers and leave many in shock at just how terrifying they can be. In the newly-released Jedi: Survivor game, Cal Kestis meets an unusual slug-like character on the Koboh planet. So what exactly is this species and what do we know about Gido?

Every time we learn more about the Galaxy far far away, whether it is a movie, TV show, game, or novel, Lucasfilm’s writers and character artists tend to introduce a brand new species that we want to learn all about. From creating intrigue around Ewoks and Wampas in the original trilogy to furthering the mystery around Yoda’s species with Grogu, Star Wars always leaves viewers curious about the lore behind many of these characters and their homeworlds.

It is no different in Respawn and EA’s highly anticipated sequel to Fallen Order, a game that focused on Cal and Eno Cordova’s deep dive into the ancient force-sensitive Zeffo species. Jedi Survivor gave us the chance to learn about many species but a certain slug-like character caught the attention of many players.

What is the slug species in Star Wars?

While you might be quick to class them all as some variant of Jabba the Hutt’s family, this new slug species is actually called a Trodatome. The Trodatomes are sentient beings and they were first introduced on-screen with a character named Klaud’s brief appearances in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie. Klaud was featured in multiple scenes in the ninth film, mostly in the New Republic’s hangars while travel to Exegol was being discussed, and Klaud’s expressions have also been the source of memes online.

As they are fairly new to the franchise, there are few details on the origin of this alien race. They do not possess any arms, but they do have sensory antennae and flippers that help them to navigate their way through the galaxy. They are often seen to be standing upright, which is quite unusual for a species with the limbs and other features that they have at their disposal.

Although there was some mention of this species in the High Republic novels, Jedi Survivor is just the second time we get to see these Trodatomes on screen, and the particular character that Cal can get to know is called Gido, who can be found talking to a human, next to Greez’ Pyloon Saloon at Koboh’s outpost.

Who is Gido in Star Wars Jedi?

After crash landing on Koboh, some of the first characters you can meet after, arriving in the outpost, are Gido and Gulu. They are located at the building to the right of Greez’s cantina, standing in the corner near a door, along the outpost’s main trail.

If you talk to Gido he will reveal that the pair you see were both some of the first prospectors to arrive on Koboh in search of the highly valued Priorite mineral, that Doma and many others in the village love to collect. However, with the risks involved, it was revealed that they have been less active of late, leaving Cal Kestis to do some exploring on their behalf.

Further dialogue with the unusual pair lets Cal know that they are actually standing there bonding over the flaws they find in the other villagers, making fun of almost everyone who passes. There are also certain Force Echoes on the cliffs near the outpost that reveals Gido and Gulu are a couple, and it highlights them confessing their love to one another on a first date overlooking the village.

As mentioned, there’s not much else we really know about this unique species but perhaps we will learn more if they appear in any of the upcoming Star Wars movies and TV shows that were announced at this year’s Celebration event.
