A new gameplay reveal trailer has been released for the long-awaited sequel to Playstation’s Spider-Man game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The trailer showed us what to expect from the characters in the second installment. But one of the biggest questions that gamers were left with is why Peter Parker has a new symbiote suit, like Venom, and how this will affect his and Miles Morales’ story in the game.
The PlayStation Showcase 2023 event has revealed a new look at many of the biggest games set to release in the upcoming year, including titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
While there was plenty of excitement around all of the announcements, much of the attention was focused on the return of the Spider-Man franchise and a certain Symbiote Suit that appeared in the cinematics, which will seemingly revolutionize some of the combat gameplay.
What is the Spider-Man Symbiote Suit?
Any fans of Marvel’s iconic Venom character will instantly recognize the signature black shape-shifting parasite that has appeared in numerous original comic books and, more recently, in Sony’s Venom movies with Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock.
As they would know, Venom is not the only character that has this unique ability to operate alongside this parasite species. Now seems that another symbiote has found its way to Peter Parker and will potentially corrupt him in the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 storyline.
These Klyntar Symbiotes can affect the decision-making of their host, but they also grant them incredible new powers through their dynamic suit of protection. As seen in the trailers and with Symbiotes in the past, the black stuff that covers them can shapeshift, fire projectiles, and absorb more damage than the regular Spider-man suits.
Why does Peter Parker have a Symbiote?
In some of the previous teasers for this game, it was revealed that Venom would be featured as a major character in the upcoming Spider-Man 2. As we know, Eddie Brock’s Venom was one the first Symbiotes introduced to Marvel’s extended universe and he is often not far from others in the Klyntar species like Carnage, Riot, Anti-Venom, and more.
While it is not exactly clear as of now, Peter Parker and Miles Morales could be tasked with defeating Venom at some point, early on in the game. Their potential battle or victory over Venom could cause the alien parasite to jump hosts, and move to Peter Parker instead.
It is also possible that Parker’s Symbiote will be different from Venom, like one of the ones previously mentioned, although it is difficult to say how exactly he would find himself in contact with one of these creatures, without his Spidey-Senses alerting him of their potential danger.
Will Peter and Miles fight in Spider-Man 2?
In the new Gameplay Reveal trailer, we can see that Peter’s behavior has shifted dramatically from the hero we saw in the first Spider-Man game. He seems to have much less care for any collateral damage and seems intent on completing his goals, no matter the cost.
This attitude already showed us that there will be a growing tension between Peter Parker and Miles Morales regarding how they should approach their interactions with Kraven the Hunter and the Lizard. This could lead to further disagreements between the two and it might force Miles to try and fight Peter so that he can rescue him from the Symbiote’s effects.
However, as of now, little has been confirmed on the origin of this Symbiote and just what effects it might have on the story. So, we will just have to wait and see, until more information is revealed. The official release date of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently slated for Fall 2023, so we will know more before then.
