What could an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 focus on?

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series had some mixed responses upon release but the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen was a hit amongst Star Wars fans. With a second season now being discussed, what could the next chapter of the iconic Jedi Master’s story entail?

After decades away from the franchise, we finally saw the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, each reprising their roles in Disney Plus’ Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It was packed with intriguing moments that give us a chance to learn more about their legendary characters.

Season 1 was filled with flashbacks to their training during the prequel movies and Obi-Wan’s clashes with Vader and the inquisitors after Revenge of the Sith. The Obi-Wan Kenobi got us all caught up on what happened to both Obi-Wan and Darth Vader following the events of Order 66.

Will there be a Kenobi season 2?

Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed, to Variety, that as of now the second season of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is “not an active development” but did not completely dismiss or rule out the potential of returning to this storyline.

“But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility,” Kennedy added, “That show was so well-received and Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another.”

To further the discussion on the show’s return during a recent Star Wars Celebration panel, Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor confirmed that he would be interested in returning to the character for a second season, teasing: “Maybe the audience will want more to come.”

With some room still left between the events of Season 1 and the release of A New Hope, there likely would be space for another season. But that raises the question: What would they focus on?

What is Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 about?

Qui-Gon Force Ghost and Luke

The last we saw Obi-Wan Kenobi, he had just rescued Leia and returned her to Alderaan, as well as besting Vader in combat. Upon returning to Tatooine he also found his former master Qui-Gon Jinn finally revealing himself as a Force Ghost.

Season 2 could delve into the idea of becoming a Force Ghost and what that transition entails, as it has always been a mystery to Star Wars fans just what it means to become one with the Force. Seeing the extent of Qui-Gon’s abilities in this new form could open up plenty of possibilities for other characters, like Anakin, Yoda, and Luke as we move past the Sequel trilogy as well.

While Obi-Wan Season 1 was mostly focused on Leia’s early days in Alderaan. The second season could be centered on highlighting young Luke’s development on Tatooine. Much of his knowledge of the Force and Jedi happens in the Original trilogy but it would be interesting to see Ben Kenobi preparing him in ways he might not realize.

Darth Vader, Reva, and the Empire.

Although the return of Hayden Christensen was great to watch, Vader should have little to no interaction with Kenobi in Season 2. It might be worth including some scenes of how Vader is coming to power in the galaxy but doing another fight between the two just wouldn’t make sense. It is probably best to isolate their journeys until they clash again in A New Hope.

Given Reva’s prominence in the first season, she will likely be featured if they were to do a second season of the Kenobi show. As there was some controversy with her amount of screen time in the series, it could be better received if she just has a minor role in the next installment.

As for new antagonists, of course, there are plenty of inquisitors and other forces of the Empire out there in the galaxy. But we could also see a focus on other threats that stem from Tatooine. Another option, if they were to focus on Qui-Gon Jinn and the Force ghosts, could show Obi-Wan, potentially, projecting elsewhere to fight battles as Luke did in The Last Jedi.
