The release of Star Wars Jedi Survivor has given us the next chapter of Cal Kestis’ journey after Order 66, as he ventures out to discover the secrets of Tanalorr. But with the announcement of Rey’s new movie expected to bring back the Jedi Order, will Cal Kestis or any characters from the Star Wars Jedi game series make an appearance?

At Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that one of the next Star Wars movies to be released will be penned by screenwriter Steven Knight, and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. It will focus on Rey’s attempt at restoring the Jedi Order following the events of Rise of Skywalker, but the plot leaves fans of the franchise with many questions about what we can expect to see.

To return the Jedi Order to its former glory in a realistic timeline, Rey will likely need the help of some other Jedi Masters or advanced force users who may have been preoccupied or scattered around the galaxy during the events of the sequels. While it may have been difficult to explain how this would be possible, Star Wars Jedi: survivor’s introduction of the hidden planet Tanalorr might have just changed everything.

Will Cal Kestis be in Rey’s Jedi order?

We know from Jedi Survivor that Cal Kestis has a similar goal to Rey. Using Tanalorr for the Hidden Path, which rescues and trains young Jedi or force-sensitive children, was done in hopes of toppling the Empire and restoring the Republic. We will learn more about Tanalorr in the next game, but it is not unreasonable to believe the temple can thrive there until Rey’s era.

The timelines surrounding both of these characters don’t exactly match up, with Cal Kestis expected to be around 70 or 80 years old during the events of the new Rey movie, which will take place in 50 ABY. Slightly older than Luke Skywalker, Cal will clearly be an incredibly powerful and knowledgeable Jedi Master by this time and could provide a lot of value as one of the only ones who remember how the Jedi Order used to operate.

But, it is unlikely that Cameron Monaghan or an older Cal actor will appear in the new movie, purely because it will affect players’ experience of the third Star Wars Jedi game that EA and Respawn are expected to produce for Lucasfilm Games, knowing that he survives. Unless they somehow choose for Cal to be less involved in risky battles and focus their story on the rise of Kata Akuna as his Padawan.

If they were to include him, one possible explanation could be that he chose to remain on Tanalorr and devoted his time to rebuilding the Jedi temple while the Galaxy still view the Jedi as traitors to the Republic. The long-standing impact of the propaganda and misinformation, that Palpatine had originally broadcast to the citizens of Coruscant and other Galactic Core planets, has been hinted at before so it would be plausible.

Who else could be in Rey’s Star Wars movie?

While the timeline might make things tricky for Cal Kestis, there are other Star Wars characters we’ve come to know who could appear in the new movie and potentially help to build the new Jedi Order. While it is unlikely for the reasons mentioned above, let’s start with characters from the Jedi Survivor game series. It is worth pointing out that Merrin and her Nightsisters are expected to have a much longer lifespan than humans and Kata will be around 60 years old by the time of the movie.

One of the most promising Jedi prospects for any Star Wars project going forward, by far, is Grogu. Yoda’s species have been confirmed to live for almost a thousand years, meaning that Grogu could oversee and maintain this new Jedi Order for centuries, long after Rey would be gone. Of course, his ties to the Mandalorians would still be conflicting for him and, as a result, he may have to split time between the two factions or potentially bring them together in the future. But it would be surprising for him to not at least be mentioned in the upcoming film.

Ahsoka is another fan-favorite character who could appear in the new Rey movie, although, it would need to be explained how she was able to communicate to Rey through the force during her confrontation with Palpatine. While many fans have claimed that the voice cameo confirmed her death before the sequels, with the World between Worlds expected to feature in the new Disney Plus series, almost anything is possible.

With a December 2025 release date expected for this new Star Wars movie, it will be interesting to see their approach to bringing in other Jedi characters that fans have come to love. But for now, all we can do is speculate about which characters we may see until more information about the new film is officially confirmed by Lucasfilm.
