Korean pop star Jennie Kim, also known as Jennie Ruby Jane, is finally set to make her acting debut with the release of ‘The Idol’ only days away. But, who will Blackpink’s Jennie play in HBO’s upcoming ‘The Idol’ series and what can we expect from her new character?
Sticking closely to the title of the show, The Idol has recruited some of the most influential singers and pop icons to feature in the raunchy series for HBO. With certain cast members making their first acting debut, many fans are interested to see how their favorite stars will appear on-screen.
There has, however, been a particular interest in the upcoming performance of Jennie Ruby Jane, a member of the iconic K-pop group, Blackpink. Jennie will feature in her first role as a supporting actress, next to Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd. But her character seems to have flown under the radar compared to some other discussions around the show.
Who does Blackpink’s Jennie play in The Idol?
According to IMDB, Jennie will feature as a character called Dyanne in HBO’s The Idol series, but for some reason, many previously believed that her character would be called Anys. As of now, there has yet to be too much revealed about her character, but she is expected to feature in every episode of the first season.
However, her role in each episode might not be what fans were hoping for. As it is now rumored, that due to scheduling conflicts and the creative direction of the series being overhauled, Jennie Kim could have much less of a role than was originally planned.
This would coincide with what we’ve seen from her part in The Idol’s trailers. Many viewers and fans of the vocalist have commented that she has a surprisingly short appearance in the latest trailer for the upcoming series. While it could just be the way it was edited, the decision doesn’t spring hope for those wanting to see more from the true pop star.
Who is Dyanne in The Idol?
From the first episode, we now know that Dyanne is the leading dancer who works with Jocelyn to prepare her for her tour and helps her with new choreography for her latest singles. All of the scenes with Jennie’s and Lily-Rose’s characters suggest that there is quite a bit of chemistry between the two of them and that they will be close friends as the first season of The Idol progresses.
Along with the Weeknd and Troye Sivan, there’s no one with a better understanding of the daily lives of pop stars, especially from the female perspective in her case. It is unclear how much input she had in the creative direction of her character but she will certainly bring all her knowledge to her portrayal, and have a lot to offer.
For now, we will have to wait and see what kind of character Jennie Ruby Jane will bring to the table and how it all unfolds as the HBO series is released. The new episodes of The Idol are currently set to release at 9 pm ET on Sundays.
